I had the incredible opportunity to photograph my first live music event at the Guildhall in Portsmouth, an experience that was both challenging and immensely rewarding. Stepping into the fast-paced world of live performances was a significant departure from my usual photography, but I embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. The low-light conditions and dynamic movements of the musicians tested my skills, as I had to capture each moment with precision—there were no second chances to get the shot right. At the time, I was using my old Canon with a cropped sensor, which affected both the focal length and exposure, making it even more difficult to achieve clear images. However, this experience pushed me to grow as a photographer. Now, with my Sony A7IV, shooting in low light has become a much more enjoyable process, allowing me to fully utilize the camera’s capabilities. If you’d like to see how I navigated similar conditions in a different setting, be sure to check out my case study from the photoshoot at Winter Wonderland!
